•Title: Self-assembly of nanoparticles/colloids through particle interactions: Energetics, dynamics, and coupling between scales
•Abstract:
Self-assembly of nanoparticles/colloids has been of great interest in both fundamental science and practical applications including crystal growth and solar cell arrays among many other examples. Self-assembly can be seen as a direct consequence of energetics and dynamics involved in nanoparticles/colloids. It is inherently associated with a wide range of physicochemical phenomena over different length and time scales such as solution structures near particle interfaces, particle interactions/dynamics and colloidal stability. This unique nature has been posing a significant challenge but is a critical step to obtain rigorous understanding of the assembly and related phenomena. This talk will consider particle interactions and their correlations to physicochemical details such as solvent structure and particle shape/surface roughness in the context of energetic and dynamic contributions in self-assembly. The talk will show the importance of connecting scales via particle interactions for in-depth understanding of various phenomena involving nanoparticles/colloids.
