    • Title: Accelerator-based Boron Neutron Capture Therapy: Bridging Physics and Medical Innovation

    • Abstract:

Boron neutron capture therapy is a radiation therapy in which cancer treatment is performed using a nuclear reaction of neutrons and boron(B-10). Boronophenylalanine(BPA) injected into the human body is selectively accumulated in cancer tissues at a high ratio (T/N ratio=3:1) and the Boron-neutron capture reactions(10B(n,α)7Li) by irradiating neutrons which is generated by accelerated protons colliding with beryllium targets.

Dawonsys/DawonMedax developed a linear proton accelerator-based neutron generator and completed commissioning it at the BNCT Center and is conducting clinical trials on recurrent brain tumors and head and neck cancer. In this presentation, we would like to introduce the development of RFQ and DTL-based linear proton accelerators and target and beam shaping assembly (BSA) for neutron generation, as well as the ongoing clinical trials.
