It will address the limitations of the current-state-of-the-art telerobotics systems for application to heavy and unstructured tasks, in particular in nuclear facility decontamination and decommissioning (D&D) applications. The strategies available for implementation of decommissioning will be reviewed and the general steps in the decommissioning process will be presented and detailed. Factors affecting strategy selection will be discussed. Some of the key lessons learned to date by the decommissioning industry will be presented.
